1999 - Silent finds it hard to be allowed to play in games without being a member of a “clan.” The AoD “tag” is created by AoD_Silent, showing his fondness for the cult movie classic “Army of Darkness.” AoD begins playing the Rogue Spear games on-line. Hero joins the team. AoD_Silent is not seen on-line very often. Hero begins to lead the team. BloodJunkie joins the team. Late in this year AoD begins playing the demo version of a new expansion pack for Rogue Spear called Urban Operations. More members are added to the team."
2000 - Silent is all but non-existent. Hero continues to lead the team with help from Blazer. The team membership continues to grow by adding current members BloodLust, Raptor and others. In May of this year the new expansion pack, Urban Operations, hits the shelves and AoD begins playing UO on the Zone. Membership continues to grow.
2001- AoD continues to play UO on-line. We had a ton of people wearing the AoD tag, but were not “Official” members. Meaning they were not added to the roster on the Zone. This had to be done by Silent. Various members pitched in time, effort, and money to sponsor web sites and message boards. Late in this year, Hero begins negotiating with Silent concerning the ownership of AoD. Unfortunately Hero begins an “on again, off again” hiatus due to work and personal commitments. Blazer begins to lead the team during Hero’s absence. Thumper and Neck join the team. Late this year AoD begins using a little known communication program called Roger Wilco.
2002- In February of 2002, Silent decides to leave the clan and turns it over to Hero. In November the Raven Shield demo is released. Many of the broadband members choose to play the Raven Shield demo over UO. Some members have not upgraded their internet connections and still struggle along with dial-up. For these reasons the clan begins to fragment. Many members were starting to feel like the clan was leaderless and separating in to two factions: The Urban Ops Clan and the Ghost Recon/Raven Shielders. AutisticFury joins the team.
2003- Membership hits an all time record of 33 members. Early in this year Blazer resigns. In an effort to quell the chaos that had become the clan, Hero decided to appoint the longest standing members as the Defacto leaders of the clan. Raptor, Junkie and Joker were voted in as the decision makers for AoD. In May, Raven Shield goes public. Many of the broadband members begin to play RVS full-time instead of UO. In early October AoD splits. Some of the members chose to form their own clan and go their separate ways. Others stayed with the “Original” AoD while it regrouped. In October 2003 the “rights” to use the “Original” AoD tag is given to us by Hero. In October of 2003, Raptor, Joker, BloodJunkie, Bloodlust, and AutisticFury set about to rebuild the clan. On November 7, 2003 AoD obtained a new server for our website and the “Original” AoD is back up and running.
2004- The clan continues to grow, by making an offer to another clan, SNS, to join AoD. AoD reaches approximately 22 members by the middle of the year. Joker leaves the clan. On June 1st, Smoken is caught using a locked y-axis on FRAPS and is kicked out of the clan for cheating. Most of the members of the former SNS clan choose not to believe the video and leave AoD to re-form SNS. Smoken joins SNS a few days later. Current members Crockdaddy, CaptainHowdy and Ol'Hag join the team.
2005- Early in this year former member, CaptainHowdy is caught by Punkbuster using a cheat. He is removed from our roster and banned from our game servers. In March a great group of guys from -CD- (Combat Division) begin playing in our server and joining us on Ventrilo. In April AoD and -CD- join forces to purchase a server box. On August 21 -CD- founder, Hitman and members Cormack, Ranger, BigJake and Neo join AoD. Membership grows to 23 members. Thumper and Ol'Hag leave AoD.
Today AoD lives on, recruiting new members at a slow, steady and much more careful pace. It is still a place to find good people and good games. That is what the original AoD was all about.
AoD currently has a server box located in Chicago with 4 RVS, a BF Vietnam and a BF2 server running on it.
There are many clans playing in the gaming community using the AoD tag. However, there is only one that is the “Original” Army of Darkness.
The following members should be commended for having the intestinal fortitude to put up the fight for the “Original” AoD. These members truly reflect the core values inherent in the members of the “Original” AoD.
- AoD_Hero
- AoD_Autistic Fury
- AoD_BloodJunkie
- AoD_BloodLust
- AoD_Neck
- AoD_Raptor
